Now that you have had time to digest all the shopping statistics in our last blog post, it is time to look at your mobile strategy and plan of attack for the upcoming holidays.
For those of you who have a strong mobile strategy in place for the holidays, bravo! You have foresight and will likely have a job in 2014.
For the rest of you procrastinators, well, you don’t have much time to play with. You also probably do your Christmas shopping on the 24th. The good news is this does not mean that you still can’t implement a few quick mobile fixes. There are still presents available on the 24th, they just might not be as great.
After the holidays, do all of your customers a favour and take the time to implement a strong short and long term mobile strategy!
Here are 3 quick ways to give your brand a mobile presence for the holiday season.
1) Make it easy to locate your store
Finding a nearby store matters to customers and even more so during the frantic holiday shopping season. They don’t want to take 5 minutes to find where your store is located; they will move to the next store.
When they do find your store location online, make sure there is ‘tap to call’ functionality and easily accessible directions and map – in mobile search (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc) and on your website.
This leads us to Mobile Search but that is another blog post for another time.
2) Make your website mobile-friendly
This would seem pretty obvious but the number of B2C websites I have visited in the last month that are not mobile optimized is shockingly high.
Seeing as you have about a week or so to get your site mobile optimized, this is likely not a possibility.
However, with a few days of work, your webmaster should be able to convert your website into a responsive design website. This is different from a mobile optimized website but beggars can’t be choosers right now.
A responsive design will at least give your site a better look and feel than sticking with your existing desktop site for mobile devices and make it an easier shopping experience for your customers.
3) Use SMS and MMS in any way possible
If you do not have a mobile database you can still use SMS and MMS this holiday season on short notice.
The easiest way would be to create an opt-in database customers can join to get daily holiday offers sent to them. This will be one offer sent to them via SMS or MMS every day around the same time. Be sure to include a link for that product so customers can purchase directly from their device if they so please.
Other options are a Text To Win contest or Holiday Gift Ideas program.
SMS is a fantastic way to drive store and web traffic through reminders and deals.
You can then encourage these users to opt-in to join your mobile database that you will launch in 2014, of course.
These are a few quick ideas you can implement at the last minute to give your brand a mobile presence for the holiday season or help boost your existing one and by no means encompasses everything that you could be doing.
With a few months of planning, this could be a very robust and detailed mobile strategy, leaving your competition in the dust. Let’s tackle that in January.
